Mactan Shrine Post :D hahaha

MACTAN SHRINE
(One of the Historical Places in the Philippines)

The Lapu-Lapu shrine (known as Mactan Shrine) is a 20 metres (66 ft) bronze statue in Punta Engaño, City of Lapu-LapuCebuPhilippines, erected in honor of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a native leader who defeated Spanish soldiers and where the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan was killed in the midst of the Battle of Mactan on 1521.

FERDINAND MAGELLAN'S DEATH
In this area where we sat was the spot where Ferdinand Magellan died on April 27, 1521 wounded in an encounter with the soldiers  of Lapu-Lapu, chief of Mactan Island, one of Magellan's ships, the Victoria, under the command of Juan Sebastian Elcano, sailed from Cebu from May 1, 1521 and anchored at San Lucar de Barrameda on September 6, 1522. Thus, completing the circumnavigation of the Earth.

MACTAN SHRINE ENTRANCE

Mactan Shrine, also known as Lapu-lapu Shrine, has no entrance free. You only have to think about your fare or your budget for gasoline. However, there’s a donation box at the entrance. It’s up to you if you would like to donate for the maintenance of the park. But for us, it’s better if we will donate to help keep the place well-maintained. Even spare change and coins will do.

A statue of Lapu-lapu is built in Mactan Shrine as an honor for his greatness. Today, the park serves as a good place for people to hang-out during weekends. Visiting the park is one of the easiest ways to unwind from the busy pace of life in Cebu City.
